How to resist satans temptings?
This world always tempts us in our daily life. At such occasions, these are few things that we can follow to stand strong and determined in our way and destroy the attempts of the satan.
1. Acknowledge we have the tendency to sin
James 1:14 says as below: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
We are tempted and our own natural desires entices us. To avoid getting tempted, the first thing to do is to understand our human tendency to be tempted by our own fleshly desires. Temptation is a given, so don’t be surprised by it. Be ready to be tempted and to face your temptations.
2. Quickly escape from the temptation.
1 Corinthians 10:13 It says this: There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
At the time when we are faced with temptation, look for the way out that God has promised and then escape and run away from the temptation as fast as you can. Wear the armor of God and understand that your hope and trust are much much stronger than the temptation.
3. Use the most powerful shield you have – the Word of truth.
Hebrews 4:12 says as below: For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Sometimes you feel that is not practical to read God’s Word when you’re being tempted. So, better way is to practice reading the Word daily, so that you are ready whenever
temptation comes. If you are reading through the Bible regularly, you will have the full counsel and guidance of God at your disposal.
4. Refocus with praise.
Psalm 147 says as below: Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.
How often have you been tempted to sin when your concentrate on worshiping the Lord? Praising God takes your focus off of yourself and puts it on God. You may not be
strong enough to resist temptation on your own, but as you focus on God, he will inhabit your praise. He will give you the strength to resist and walk away from the temptation.
5. When you failed, repent quickly
James 1:15 says this: Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Though Bible in several places tells us the best way to resist temptation is to flee from it (1 Corinthians 6:18; 1 Corinthians 10:14; 1 Timothy 6:11; 2 Timothy 2:22), still we all fail from time to time. We fail to flee. Notice I didn’t say, repent quickly if you fail. Having a more realistic view—knowing that at times you will fail—should help you to repent quickly when you do. It is not the end of the world when you fail, but it is extremely dangerous to continue existing in sin.
