Best Smartphones in Super LCD and AMOLED Categories

I was recently on a hunt for a best AMOLED smartphone and I read lot of reviews, went to showrooms and tested lots of phones and I would like to share my experience to help you make the correct choice while buying your new smartphone. I needed a dual core 1Ghz+, AMOLED, 800×480 resolution 5MP+ smartphone running Android 2.2 Froyo or 2.3 Gingerbread. With my expectations of all this features in one phone, I did not get any. I had to make few compromises. No Nokias here as Nokia is sticking to Symbian V3 for its smartphones and it seems it wint change its mind to embrace Android in near future. Symbian simply is not the OS for the touch phones. Period.

Regarding the dual core phones, the time has not yet come. Few phones are in the pipeline but I have to wait some more time to get thm on the market. The dual core phones expected in near future are Dual Core phones LG Star (a.k.a LG Optimis 2X – available now), Moto Atrix 4G, Moto Bionic and Samsung Infuse 4G. The dual core phones advantage is that it will chew Android and run HD videos very easily just out of the box.

My next major requirement was a Super AMOLED screen. All the HTC phones I was previously having in mind turned out to be Super LCD, a new technology from Sony which HTC and many other phone makers are adopting to reduce cost. Super LCD is actually a high quality LCD with lower power consumption and deeper black levels, nut no where near SuperAMOLED. The best bang for bucks in Super AMOLED category is the Samsung Wave (Wave I and not Wave II), but the only downside is you have to live with the Samsung Bada OS which is actually not bad when you know how to hack into it. It has an excellent super AMOLED running at 800×480 on a 1GHz CPU and will put other phone displays to shame including iPhone 4. Super AMOLED is simply brilliant. But unfortunately samsung moved to Wave II which uses a Super LCD from Sony and not AMOLED. There was a rumor that there was a severe shortage of AMOLED screens that made this companies switch. So, my ultimate choice was Samsung Wave 1 which is simply the best at just Rs.17,500.

3. Nokia C60-01 – Rs.15500

Only if you can live with Symbian go for Nokia c6-01 which has got a 8 Mp snapper and good quality clear black AMOLED screen. I have included C6-01 here because it is a reasonably proced AMOLED. N8 AMOLED is good but the clear black AMOLED in c6-01 is still better in display black levels.
