My 8 year old Samsung 19 inch monitor TN panel LCD monitor started flickering and gave me a reason to look out for a new monitor. Immediately, I was convinced I need a 24 inch monitor as I love using a Dell 24 inch monitor at office. I also decided this should be an IPS monitor and glare free. I zeroed in on two options – Samsung S24E390HL which is a PLS panel (Samsung’s version of IPS) and LG 24MP77HM. Samsung was cheaper than the LG by 2000 rupees. Luckily one person had done a side by side comparison of these two monitors in youtube and they are neck to neck in performance. But LG 24MP77HM had a slight advantage that it had 2 HDMI ports, had built in speakers and stunning looks. Went ahead and bought the LG and in the last 2 months, I must say that I am fully impressed with its picture quality, menu layout and it does not hurt eyes even when used for extended period of time. TFTCentral reports this monitor to be in the Flicker safe range.
